Abstract: »This article examines the largely underexplored experiences of male Holocaust survivors who were victims of, or witnesses to, sexual violence. Engaging with trauma theory, masculinity studies, and testimonial ethics, this article traces the ways in which male victims navigated humiliation, fear, and emotional ambiguity under genocidal conditions. Particular attention is given to Leipciger’s memoir The Weight of Freedom, which recounts a coerced sexual relationship with a Kapo, highlighting the emotional complexity of survival. These accounts destabilize fixed notions of victimhood and challenge the assumption that male suffering must be expressed through strength, resistance, or stoicism.« (Source: Word and Text)
